ETHNOGRAPHIC COLLECTIONS

 

Rabari - A Pastoral community of Kutch

 

The core collection for multi-media presentation and events comprise originals, reproductions, and reprographic forms as basic source material. The acquired ethnographic objects are systematically documented in-house as also networked with other institutions in India and outside for exchange of information.

Some important collections:

  • Collection of photographs of ritual dances, ritual floor drawings, Rabari, Lifestyle; and of Warli paintings and scroll paintings of the Mahabharat by Santokba.
  • 700 masks from India and many other countries throughout the world.
  • Audio cassettes of Bengal Christian hymns, Bengali patriotic songs, Brahmo Samaj songs, Bandish of Indore gharana, Santhal music, Kumaoni music.
  • Replicas of the Australian rock art.
  • Collection of embroidered garments and textiles.
