| EXHIBITION as an ACTION INSTRUMENT
IGNCA DIASPORA EXHIBITIONS have been conceived to understand the creative Diaspora of Indian people and their ideas in different temporal and spatial zones. Unlike standard practices of setting up static shows, IGNCA exhibitions would act as action instruments to initiate constructive dialogues. Each exhibition would follow specific themes and would provide sufficient space and tools for the participants to create their own exhibition modules.
IGNCA Diaspora exhibitions will be both static and traveling. We are indenting to organise Diaspora Exhibition in all Indian states and in countries where Indian Diaspora have substantial presence.
The first Exhibition organised as part of IGNCA Diaspora Cultural Events was held at IGNCA from 5th to 9th January 2007under the title UTSA or ORGINS. The exhibition had two components. First one MAPPING THE DIASPORA was to map the Indian Diaspora in ten different time zones through images, artifacts and installations, and chart the journey of Indian cultural symbols.
The second section was INDENTURED WORLD which showcased images related to the migration of Indians as indentured labour during colonial days as indentured migrant labourers. These labourers lived under inhuman conditions of plantation societies, and created a new Indian culture even as they generated wealth for the colonial planters.
We are planning a series of Exhibitions based on specific themes such as Impact of Information Technology and Kannada Diaspora in Bangalore , Gulf Migration and Malayalees in Gulf and Kerala, 1857 and Indian Diaspora in Lucknow, Kolkata and Indian Diaspora, Agriculture and Punjabi Diaspora and Gandhiji and Gujarati Diaspora .
