With the ushering in the Saka New Year we are stepping into the second volume of Vihangama. Amidst new hopes the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts is humming with manifold activities and aspiring to reach out to greater horizons,

In this third quarterly Outreach, Vihangama is taking up the subject of Yaksas and water Cosmology, which unfolds vividly the multi-layered symbolism of Water Cosmology and has brought froh the subtle nuances of Yaksas.

Another focus this issue is IGNCA’s Building Project. The article traces the earlier efforts of the Centre and gives an insight to the present progress of building activities.

Adi Drsya is a major programme of Janapada Sampada. Towards this end, IGNCA had undertaken an ambitious and integrated projected project in collaboration with the Centre National de la Research Scientifique (CNRS), Paris to conduct documentation of the Rock Art at Jhiri (Madhya Pradesh) which is the highlight of the issue. In addition, a Rock Art publication of IGNCA Deer in Rock Art of India and Europe has been reviewed.

Other concerns in this quarter are: "The City and the Stars", Manuscriptology and Palaeography" and a workshop on the modern Micrographic Techniques. This issue also seeks to highlight the book collection of Acharya Hazari Prasad Dwivedi.

In the realm of major documentation programme of Cultural Archives, the IGNCA has created a video documentation of "Manikyamma: The Devaganika from Godavari" which highlights the intricacies of Manikyamma’s abhinaya. This is being discussed in the context of Adhyatma Ramayana.

IGNCA regularly invites international and national scholars from different fields of study to deliver lectures on their respective areas of specialisation. This provides an opportunity for interactions amongst experts from varied fields which help explore newer dimensions. In this quarter we are publishing excerpts from lectures on "Herbal Medicine for Human Health", which happens to be a research programme of Janapada Sampada, and a report on "Costmic Manifestation of Vaikuntha and Visvarupa", and others.

In fact, Vihangama echoes the pulse of the Centre and will continue to endeavour to keep its readers abreast of the multifarious activities of IGNCA.
